Tokyo EDITION Toranomon has partnered with W Shanghai to launch the Shanghai Discovery Afternoon Tea, available from July 23, 2026. This unique collaboration brings a taste of Shanghai’s rich culinary heritage to Tokyo’s luxury hotel scene.
Served at the 31st-floor Lobby Bar, this afternoon tea offers a blend of traditional Shanghai flavors and modern techniques. Guests can enjoy a selection of four savory dishes, four desserts inspired by the Jiangnan region and Hong Kong classics, and two types of scones, all paired with three carefully chosen Chinese teas.
About the Shanghai Discovery Afternoon Tea
This afternoon tea celebrates Shanghai’s “Haipai” culture, which blends Eastern tradition with Western innovation. The menu features contemporary takes on classic Shanghai dishes, including duck spring rolls with honeydew melon and caviar, smoked salmon open sandwiches, foie gras tartlets with orange jam, and char siu pies accented with plum jam.
The sweets incorporate French pastry techniques and draw inspiration from seasonal customs and flavors of the Jiangnan region and Hong Kong. Highlights include mugwort-flavored dango with white chocolate cream, chocolate spring rolls filled with brownie and fresh strawberries, mango cream tarts with tapioca pearls, and a summer peach verrine with rosemary-scented peach compote.
To complement the food, three Chinese teas are served: Jade Sword green tea with chestnut and orchid notes, Jasmine Pearl green tea with a refreshing finish, and a green tea infusion blended with rose petals and dried raspberries.
