Mandarin Oriental Tokyo has partnered with the National Museum of Western Art to offer an afternoon tea inspired by the Turner exhibition in Tokyo. This special menu will be available from September 24 to November 15, 2026.
Located on the 38th floor at the Oriental Lounge, the afternoon tea features sweets and savory items inspired by Turner’s iconic paintings, including “Whaling Ship Erebus, Hooray! Another One Caught!” and “Landscape with Water.” The menu is designed to reflect the themes of light, atmosphere, movement, reflection, nature, and ephemeral beauty found in Turner’s work.
About the Afternoon Tea Collaboration
The afternoon tea offers a modern take on traditional British desserts, such as Victoria sponge, using ingredients connected to the UK. Each item artistically represents the light and landscapes depicted in Turner’s paintings through delicate colors and textures. The savory selections also incorporate elements inspired by the colors and compositions of his art. The finale is a special dessert based on “Whaling Ship Erebus,” prepared tableside to capture the dynamic energy of the sea scene.
