JP Tower Nagoya’s commercial complex, KITTE Nagoya, is hosting “KITTE Nagoya’s ‘Joyful and Cheerful’ Summer Festival 2026” from August 1 to August 31, 2026. The event features a unique collaboration between popular yokai artist Yagyu Chuhei and neon art celebrating 100 years of neon in Japan.
The festival is held in Nagoya’s Nakamura Ward and includes art installations, dance performances, and interactive activities. It offers visitors a vibrant cultural experience combining traditional Japanese folklore with modern neon art.
About the Summer Festival at KITTE Nagoya
This summer, KITTE Nagoya presents an artistic fusion of yokai (Japanese supernatural creatures) and neon lights with the centerpiece “Hyakki Yakou Yagura,” an illuminated tower installation in the first-floor atrium. The artwork showcases original yokai characters by Yagyu Chuhei paired with handcrafted glass neon lighting, creating a photogenic and immersive experience inspired by the “Night Parade of One Hundred Demons.”
Alongside the art, the festival brings back the popular “BORN DANCE” bon odori event, featuring guest MCs, kids’ dance teams, and dancers from Nagoya Visual Arts Academy. Attendees who join the bon odori can receive a limited-edition yokai-themed tenugui towel illustrated by Yagyu Chuhei and a ¥300 voucher redeemable at KITTE Nagoya shops, while supplies last.
The event also includes a yokai art gallery by graphic design students from Nagoya Mode Gakuen, a traditional summer festival-style game area with activities like yo-yo fishing and ring toss, and a “Yusuzumi” music live performance by talented musicians from Nagoya Visual Arts Academy. Various workshops and creative booths by local students add to the festive atmosphere.
