NHK’s popular nature documentary series “Darwin Comes!” has partnered with the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo to present the special exhibition “Super Creatures World.” This collaboration brings together fascinating specimens and captivating footage to deepen visitors’ understanding of the natural world.
The exhibition runs through October 12, 2026, and visitors are encouraged to check the schedule and ticketing details listed below. The official encyclopedia, “Darwin Comes! The Complete Encyclopedia of Living Creatures,” priced at ¥3,520 (tax included), offers an enriched experience alongside the exhibit.
About the Exhibition and Collaboration

The “Super Creatures World” special exhibition combines the National Museum of Nature and Science’s extensive specimen collection with iconic footage from NHK’s “Darwin Comes!” series, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The collaboration extends to the official encyclopedia published by Kodansha, featuring detailed illustrations by Kayomi Tsukimoto, who also designed the book’s cover. Visitors are greeted at the entrance by her animal artwork, setting the tone for an immersive experience.

One highlight is the replica skeleton of the giant ground sloth species, Pyramiodontherium, a fascinating prehistoric creature that surprises many with its size. The encyclopedia also showcases the Megatherium americanum, another giant ground sloth, with expert supervision by paleontologist Takahiro Tsuibiji, who contributed to the exhibition’s fossil displays. Understanding these creatures through the encyclopedia enhances the realism and engagement when viewing the exhibition.
The encyclopedia further explains the habitats and ecology of various living creatures, providing context that enriches the visitor’s perception of the displays. The included special DVD features 72 minutes of selected footage from the “Darwin Comes!” series, some of which is also shown at the exhibition, allowing visitors to continue exploring the natural world even after their visit.
