HAM to HON to is a collaborative project by Ishibashi Commons, a community organization active in Ikeda for over a decade. The venue addresses the growing need for local gathering spaces amid social changes such as increased remote schooling and more single-person households. By combining the expertise of a local bookstore, Magari Shobo, and a charcuterie workshop, Ham Yokoyama, the space fosters connections among diverse groups including students, residents, and people with disabilities.
The ham shop, Ham Yokoyama, produces sausages and hams using French Basque techniques and local ingredients, emphasizing careful craftsmanship and community ties. Magari Shobo is a well-loved independent bookstore known for its thoughtfully curated selection of new and used books for all ages. Additionally, a small bookstore called Tenten-do, run by manga artist Tenten Hosokawa, will feature her works and children’s books focused on mental health.
