Hokkahokka-tei 50th Anniversary Interactive Exhibition in Soka, Saitama from July 24

Hokkahokka-tei, the pioneer of takeout bento meals, is hosting its first-ever interactive exhibition in its birthplace, Soka City, Saitama Prefecture. The special 50th anniversary event, titled “What Is a Bento? Exhibition,” runs from July 24 to August 6, 2026, at the Soka City Hall’s main building.

This exhibition offers visitors a unique chance to explore the history and charm of Hokkahokka-tei’s handmade bento through hands-on displays. It highlights the brand’s iconic “Original Nori Bento,” features the newly created “Hokka Font,” and invites guests to engage with various interactive experiences. Located at Soka City Hall, the event is free and open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., including weekends.

About the Exhibition

The “What Is a Bento? Exhibition” celebrates Hokkahokka-tei’s 50 years of dedication to delivering warm, handmade bento meals. The event is part of a public-private collaboration with Soka City, aiming to revitalize public spaces through creative use and community engagement.

Visitors can see a detailed breakdown of the beloved Original Nori Bento, showcasing its carefully selected ingredients. The exhibition also features the “Hokka Font,” an original typeface developed for the anniversary, with interactive activities like the “Hokka Slot” to try it out. Additionally, a “Future Bento” corner showcases imaginative ideas for what bentos might look like in the years ahead, created in collaboration with city officials.
