Starbucks has unveiled a new group art exhibition featuring eight artists from the Tokyo University of the Arts Painting Department at its Cafe & Art Gallery in Arakawa, Tokyo. The exhibition, titled “GABE6 – Drawing as Practice,” explores the creative process behind drawing as a form of artistic practice.
For those exploring art and coffee spots in the Arakawa area, Starbucks Cafe & Art Gallery Yanaka Goten-zaka offers a unique blend of culture and café experience. The exhibition runs from September 4 to October 12, 2026, aligning with the annual Geisai art festival held at Tokyo University of the Arts.
The exhibition showcases works from eight artists of the university’s Painting Department 6, with free admission. Visitors can enjoy the art alongside Starbucks coffee in a two-story wooden building that honors the history and culture of the Yanaka neighborhood. The venue is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
About the Exhibition and Venue
“GABE6 – Drawing as Practice” is a collaborative project between Starbucks Coffee Japan, The Chain Museum, and Tokyo University of the Arts Painting Department 6. The exhibition highlights drawing not just as line work on paper, but as an ongoing process involving material choices, composition, observation, and dialogue. The show includes motifs inspired by “Molkky,” a Finnish sport, reflecting moments shared by the artists during their creative process.

The exhibition invites visitors to experience the traces of thought and practice behind each piece, emphasizing the evolving nature of art creation within a community of artists. This is the third exhibition at the Starbucks Cafe & Art Gallery Yanaka Goten-zaka, a space designed to intersect art and coffee culture in a historic Tokyo neighborhood.
