PLUS One Launches New ‘Hobo Unagi’ Rice Mix in Japan

PLUS One has launched a new “Hobo Unagi” rice mix in Japan, available from September 2, 2026.

This product highlights a realistic eel substitute that mimics the taste, texture, and appearance of real eel, offering a unique option for Japanese rice dishes.

The “Hobo Unagi” rice mix is prepared with a generous portion of eel-style pieces and flavored with Hidaka kelp broth from Hokkaido. It is designed for cooking with two cups of rice, serving two to three people, and is priced at ¥700 (tax excluded).

About the “Hobo Series” and the New Rice Mix

The “Hobo Series” by Kanetetsu Delica Foods recreates various seafood flavors and textures with realistic surimi products. Since its first release in 2014 with “Hobo Kani” (imitation crab), the series has expanded to include items like “Hobo Hotate” (scallop), “Hobo Ebi Fry” (fried shrimp), and “Hobo Unagi” (eel substitute). The new “Hobo Unagi” rice mix uses these eel-like pieces in a kabayaki-style preparation combined with Hokkaido’s Hidaka kelp broth, delivering a rich and satisfying flavor that spreads throughout the rice.

Besides the eel rice mix, other “Hobo Series” rice mixes such as “Hobo Kani”, “Hobo Kegani” (hair crab), and “Hobo Hotate” are also available, allowing consumers to enjoy seafood-flavored rice easily at home. The products are known for their convenience and authentic taste, suitable for meals and packed lunches.
