Tohoku Shinsha has launched a special 60th anniversary celebration for Thunderbirds in Tokyo, marking 60 years since its Japanese TV debut on September 30, 2026.
Pricing and portions follow typical goods and merchandise releases in Japan; items include collectible model kits and apparel, with prices varying by product.
The anniversary lineup features a new key visual, a collaboration camping car, special shrine stamps, limited-edition model kits and T-shirts, and a VR experience showcasing Thunderbird 3. A commemorative screening and talk show will also take place in Tokyo.
About the Thunderbirds 60th Anniversary Celebration
Thunderbirds, a legendary British puppet-based special effects series, has been beloved in Japan since its 1966 TV debut. Tohoku Shinsha, the official Japanese license holder, is celebrating this milestone with a range of commemorative products and events that blend nostalgia with modern technology.
The new key visual highlights Thunderbird vehicles 1 through 5 using simple silhouettes and colors, symbolizing the series’ iconic imagery. This visual will be used across websites, social media, and events.
Among the new products is a collaboration with Direct Cars, a camper van specialist, creating a Thunderbird-themed camping car to be unveiled and available for order at the Yokohama Camping Car Show on September 26 and 27, 2026.
Fans can also collect special shrine stamps from Kashiwa Shrine, linked to the late Shigeru Komatsuzaki, the artist behind many Thunderbirds model box arts who lived in Kashiwa City.
