Tsukishima Monja Tamotoya, a popular monjayaki restaurant from Tokyo’s Tsukishima district known for its long lines at locations in Tokyo Station and Tenjin, is opening its first Kokura branch in Fukuoka on July 17, 2026. This new spot brings authentic Tokyo monjayaki flavors combined with the rich cultural heritage of Kokura and Kitakyushu.

Visitors to Japan looking to experience regional food culture will find this new restaurant a unique destination. The interior design reflects the famous Uomachi Gintengai arcade, Japan’s first public street arcade, and features a giant lantern inspired by the famous Todata Gion Oyamakasa festival, creating a vibrant atmosphere that blends Tokyo’s culinary tradition with Kitakyushu’s local spirit.

The restaurant is operated by KISSUI GROUP and is located in the heart of Kokura’s central shopping district, just a two-minute walk from JR Kokura Station. The menu highlights fresh seafood sourced directly from Toyosu Market, the family business of the restaurant’s founder dating back to 1868. The house-made broth, simmered from seafood, chicken bones, and aromatic vegetables, enhances the flavors of the monjayaki dishes.
