About Murasakian’s Seasonal Obanyaki

How Murasakian Makes Its Red Bean Paste

Murasakian cooks its homemade chunky red bean paste in-store with carefully selected Hokkaido azuki beans. The paste is used in the ¥200 Kasama Chestnut Obanyaki and is prepared without preservatives, with restrained sweetness that highlights the beans’ natural flavor.

Murasakian prepares its chunky red bean paste in-store every day using Tokachi-grown Hokkaido azuki beans. The shop does not use the usual bean-rinsing step known as “shibukiri,” allowing more of the beans’ natural flavor to remain while keeping the sweetness restrained. For this autumn item, the paste is paired with a fragrant, naturally sweet Kasama chestnut puree.
