The new books build on the appeal of the Chiikawa series, which is also attracting attention through the film Chiikawa: The Secret of Mermaid Island. Rather than using one shared story format, the three books focus on the individual charm of each character, making them suitable for reading together or collecting as a set.
Chiikawa’s book invites children to join in with dancing, drawing and flower fortune-telling. Hachiware’s story shows the character sleeping peacefully and is positioned as a gentle choice for bedtime reading.
